Back in 1994 something brand new blazed onto the Internet… Online Gambling (or gaming). You know, people like to gamble, at least many of us do. All the fancy casinos that seem to be springing up everywhere, not to mention places like Las Vegas that are standing proof that a great deal of money is being spent gambling. Enter Bodog, one of the first to introduce the concept of online gaming.
The business was a hit and the company was making good profits. Soon came diversification into some other areas, including a record label (Bodog Music) and a company promoting mixed martial arts events, aptly called bodogFight. But the main focus was always on the computer gaming, which has just continued to gain in popularity.
In 2008 the business model changed and the company took on a different look. Both the record label and the fight promotion businesses were discontinued and the company effectively pulled itself out of directly managing the online sites. The rights to operate these sites would now be sold to third parties, but would still use the Bodog brand name.
The main licensee running nearly all of the online gaming sites is a company called Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, out of Quebec, Canada. If you visit any of their online ‘casinos’ you might have some fun, especially if you’re one of the many who enjoys casino gaming. Of course, just like in real life, the odd’s are in the favor of the house. If it wasn’t that way, they wouldn’t be in business, right? But then again, there’s always a big winner somewhere, so there’s hope yet.

If you’ve ever watched professional poker players on TV you’ve probably seen a few who got their start playing online poker. There are practice games available where you can learn to play and hone your skills playing against other ‘live’ players without risking any real money. But, of course, there is also ‘real-money’ play. To do this you simply need to stick some money in your account and then go for it. A lot of people are going for it.
The website has garnered some noteworthy media attention recently by the nature of some of the weird wagers being offered. One was about the outcome of the final episode of The Sopranos. Another bet was determined by what Paris Hilton would wear on the Larry King Show for her first interview after being released from jail. A third involved Heather Mills, ex-wife of ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. It had to do with her appearance on the TV show ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
The online casinos offer just about any game you could imagine, certainly most of what’s offered in all the big-name ‘real’ casinos. Poker, craps, roulette, keno, and blackjack (to name but a few) are all there. You’ll also find sports book like football and horse-racing available.
If you want to gamble, no need to look any longer. These sites have it all. What Bodog started in the beginning continues to flourish. And it’s fun!
