The Ruin of Rooney!
Well, it seems the Sunday Muppet Media really ‘ spilled the beans ‘ as far as Wayne Rooney is concerned. I cannot believe he would be so naive as to not realise she would sell to the highest bidder! And now revelations of a second involvement with a ‘ Lady of the Night ‘ , no wonder he has been a shadow of himself in recent months!
Redemption of Rooney!
Well, Rooney plays! He starts tentatively and a few balls go astray, but good work and a great ball from Glen Johnson and Rooney scores! 0 – 1.
England Curse!
The England Curse ( or so it seems! ) strikes again and another player is badly injured. This time its Walcot off on a stretcher and he had looked effective on the right. Poor Arsenal! Wenger holds his breath!
England Super Sub!
Adam Johnson on to take Walcot’s place. This could become a habit ! A great ball from Gerrard but Defoe cannot control and a defensive header from Glen Johnson to Hart halts a Swiss attack !
Damp Squib Defoe!
Jermain Defoe played quite well, but just could not get on the end of the numerous chances that came his way. Great balls from Adam Johnson, Rooney and Gerrard arrived but he just couldn’t get there. No goals for the nearly man!
Effective England!
The first half was largely dominated by England as Gerrard controlled midfield and mopped up where necessary. This position seems to suit him. A wild challenge from Barry gives away a free kick and a let off for England as the Swiss come back into the game, which ends with Defoe missing a good heading opportunity!
Mixed Fortunes!
From the England controlled 1st half the 2nd seemed a bit of a contrast ! Rooney had a mixed game, a good ball one minute and giving away possession the next. It seems to spread as Barry loses the ball, Glen Johnson also, and then Gerrard follows suit! Milner gets a yellow and misses the next game.
From Prowess to Panic!
A foul by Glen Johnson and Hart flaps at the free kick but gathers at the 2nd attempt. He inexplicably puts the ball out when not under pressure, and a lot of his clearances are last minute and worrying. The Swiss are definitely in the game and Hart gets away with it again as there is panic in the England box! Lichsteiner off for a 2nd yellow!
Ups and Downs!
Gerrard is lucky not to get booked and Defoe gives away a free kick. A great ball from Gerrard and Adam Johnson skirts the keeper to score. 0 – 2. Well done Super Sub. Defoe goes off injured – the Curse strikes! A great goal from Shaqiri and the Swiss are back in it. They are playing with 10 men!
Gerrard Genius!
Steven Gerrard was superb. He plays the simple ball when necessary and the killer one when it’s on. The complete Midfield General! Bent harshly penalised for offside? He was in his own half! Rooney off – Phillips in. Man Utd at Everton on Saturday, he’ll get some stick there! A great chance for England on the break, but a poor ball from Phillips wastes the chance. Bent finally scores. 1 -3.
On a final note!
Wayne Rooney looked subdued and almost apologetic throughout the game. People would warm to him a lot more if he performed without the anger and arrogance that has sadly been a part of his game!
